Other Museum Highlights
Other museum highlights include international fire fighting apparatus donated to the Buffalo Fire Historical Society from such countries as Japan, Germany, France, and Canada. Several small collections of fire hydrants, fire extinguishers, uniforms, helmets, tools, badges, patches, sprinklers, hoses, hose heads, breathing apparatus, fire boxes, first aid kits, books, periodicals, videos, films, modes of transportation and communication span several decades and document the evolution of professional fire fighting. The museum maintains a large collection of photographs depicting major events in Buffalo fire history ranging from the beginning of the volunteer collection to the present day. Unique to the Buffalo Fire Historical Society Museum is the collection of children’s toys; specifically, the collection of fire truck models created and donated to the Museum by one of its own members. The museum also displays various items such as lists, plaques, photographs, and medals dedicated to the remembrance of fire fighters fatally injured in the line of duty.
