The Buffalo Fire Historical Society highlights many artifacts used during the Pan-American Exposition of 1901. Assignment of five Buffalo fire companies to the Pan-American Exposition of 1901 ensured protection from potenially serious fires. Comprising the 7th Ballalion, the five companies were situated on the grounds of the exposition. The five companies included Engine No. 30, Engine No. 31, Chemical Engine No. 32, Chemical Engine No. 33, and Hook and Ladder No. 10. Each engine carried 1500 feet of hose and required between two and five horses. The Pan-American Exposition installed 35 alarm boxes to assist the Buffalo fire companies in locating potential fires. Finally, many will recall the fact that President William McKinley was assassinated during the exposition. Within the Buffalo Fire Historical Society, visitors will find the actual logbook reporting the assassination of the President.
